A high-tech turbo kit for Land Rover Defender and Discovery 2.5L TD5
Saito supply two complete kits for Land Rover Defender and Discovery: SDT1 WG (Wastegate model) and SDT1 VGT (Variable Geometry Model), both can be easily installed on the car. To avoid errors in the order, please provide the original turbine code and the code of the desired kit.
SDT1WG is based on a genuine Mitsubishi TD04 Turbo equipped with 360° thrust bearing able to withstand the pressure generated by a boost pressure of over 1.6 Bar without problems (with an excellent oil the turbo can stand to a pressure around 2.0 bar), the crankcase is in HiSi (a high quality gray cast iron capable of withstanding high temperatures of gases), the compressor is very efficient and generates high air flow rates with a moderate temperature output. Mitsubishi turbines represent the maximum evolution in the world of supercharging thanks to the careful study of materials, to the refined realization of the internal components and to the sophisticated aerodynamics. SDT1WG comes out with a pre calibrated actuator (1.2bar) that allows the kit to grant an increase in the engine power of over 20% with a high driving torque at low rpm.
The greater mass of air processed by the compressor at low revs and the high efficiency of the component allow an advance of the driving torque of over 150 rpm with a good diesel pump recalibration, making the driving of the car more efficient especially in the off-road trails. The reactivity of the engine increases substantially and the loss of energy, and so the needs to change gear, occurs at a lower speed than the original. Last but not least SDT1WG allows the reduction in the specific fuel consumption (gr/CVh) and the drop in the temperatures in the combustion chamber. The performances of the SDT1WG kit in some cases exceed those of a traditional obsolete variable geometry turbos with a great reliability. A smoky engine has unquestionably a fuel pump calibration trouble and the high temperatures in the combustion chamber. The high mass of air processed by the SDT1WG allows the maintenance of a very low smokiness and high performance with a good calibration of the pump. For a correct installation it is always necessary to flatten the flange of the exhaust manifold to which the turbo is to be connected in order to avoid gas leakage and loss of performance. The injection system must be re-calibrated in order to introduce an adequate flow of diesel, being careful to maintain a correct stoichiometric ratio.
Important: when installing the turbo, insert oil into the inlet hole of the turbine lubrication system. For safety it is better to replace the engine oil and the filter. The use of additives for oil is not recommended. The turbo is supplied already fully set up for installation in place of the original.
