Information
- EGR is the acronym of "Exhaust Gas Recirculation";
- The EGR valve is controlled by the car ECU;
- The malfunctions to this component are due to the accumulation of dirt and and are signaled by a yellow spy "engine failure". This happens often in the gas-oil auto ,especially if car is employed for short distances during the day
Description
The EGR valve “Exhaust Gas Recirculation” has the assignment to recirculate a part of the unloading gases released by the motor (“exhausted gas”) and re-send them to the intake manifold in a percentage that oscillates among 5% and the 15% of the total one of the gases produced by the car. The purpose is to defeat the pollutants produced by vehicles : a noble goal surely, that goes in the direction pursued by the European states which try to limit the diffusion of the environment of the NOxes (nitrogen oxides), very polluting to tall pressures and temperatures.
This recirculation of the exhausted gases in the phase of unloading happens thanks to the signals given by the ECU(electronic control unit) to a solenoid valve. This last one has the function to close and open itself and regulates the passage of the gases through an exchanger which lowers the temperature of gases and puts them again in the intake manifold. Once arrived inside ,are remixed to the inhaled air and produces combustion. Unfortunately the malfunctions to this valve are frequent, due mainly to the accumulation of dirt caused by the passage of the unloading gases. The problem can be especially noted in cases of diesel vehicles used for short distances and in this context not always allows the motor to reach optimal temperatures of exercise(such as city paths). This is signalled by a yellow spy indicating “engine failure” and can be solved with the substitution of the component which doesn’t have an elevated cost.
SAITO can provide different codes of EGR valves with pneumatic or electric function , and the range is in constant increase.
